You must have heard reports of Reiki being used as a complementary therapy in the treatment of cancer. Naturally, you would be curious to find out if this is really true.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese healing practice informed by the idea that one's spiritual energy can be controlled by a practitioner through close proximity or touch. The treatment doesn’t require painful pressure or tissue manipulation as it’s non-invasive. The goal is to ensure the free flow of energy throughout the body to promote good health and well-being.

How can Reiki help with cancer?

Reiki practitioners understand that when the energy pathways of the body are blocked, pain and illness manifest. By strengthening energy flows through these disturbed pathways, pain can be reduced and the body put in a better position to heal itself and fight illnesses.

For people suffering from cancer, Reiki may be used to reduce the pain that comes with the progression of the disease. It can also be used to reduce many of the uncomfortable symptoms associated with cancer treatment, including nausea, weakness and anxiety. In addition, Reiki improves a patient’s emotional health and outlook.

Anecdotal reports

People who have received Reiki treatment have reported its benefits. Furthermore, new research indicates that it can relieve stress, improve one’s mood and sleep, and reduce pain.

In a study of adults receiving Reiki treatment for cancer in a university hospital, symptomatic improvement was recorded in the patients as 89% of them reported relaxation, 75% reported improved attitude and reduced anxiety and worry, while 81% reported improved mood. Also improved were pain, sleep, loneliness and isolation, and mood.

Other studies have produced similar results. If you’re in the UK, you can benefit from Reiki healing in UK with Healing Reiki.

What happens during a Reiki session?

While may likely have to take your coat and shoes off, you wouldn't have to get undressed. You may have your eyes closed or open and you may sit or lay down. The Reiki practitioner will place her hands a few inches above your body while examining your energy field, focusing on particular areas causing you pain as a result of negative energy. As she does this, she moves and balances the energy around and within your body. You may feel a cool, warm, relaxing or tingling sensation throughout your body. However, if you don't feel anything at all, that's fine as well because it's normal.

Would you be willing to try or recommend Reiki for cancer?
